Summer was this week’s preschool theme. It’s June, and getting rather warm; so how better to get outside and enjoy the sunshine then with summer focused activities? This week we were able to play around with water and enjoy some summer treats.
Without further ado, here it is:
This was an activity very similar to apple stamping or potato stamping. Since it summer I decided that lemons would be fun to stamp and see what kind of print they made. This was a hit! As just about any activity involving paint is at our house.
It started as stamping lemon and limes and looking at the print they left. Then the activity evolved into using the fruit as paint brushes and then into finger painting. Have I told you yet how much I LOVE finger painting as a toddler activity. It’s such as great sensory experience for little ones. And, while it may be a little messy, it is super easy because all you need is paint and paper.
I love water activities, especially in the Summer when it’s hot outside. It keeps the kiddos cool and out of the house away from the TV or other electronics. This week we played with the water table and experimented with how water moves. Batman loved scooping the water up and watching it fall and splash.
As a huge advocate of baking with toddlers this was an easy activity that a 3-year-old can do most of with just a little help with the measuring. We measured out the ingredients, placed them in a mason jar, shook it around for 5 minutes, and stuck it in the freezer. After 3 hours we were able to enjoy delicious ice cream.
Another water activity for a hot day. Simply hook the sprinkler up to the water hose and let the kids run around. For a little extra fun we placed the sprinkler underneath our trampoline and watched how it came through the holes and the different patterns made. We also made foot prints with our wet feet. So much fun and beneficial for the littles. They really do learn from the simplest things.

Simply take some popsicle molds and put in your favorite drink. Lemonade works great, so does Kool-Aid. Cups and spoons work in pinch for the molds and I know you have them around the house.
Mix up some lemonade and throw in a packet of blue Kool-Aid. Your toddler will love watching the yellow turn to blue (or green depending on the darkness of Kool-Aid).
Even the tots can play around in the water. Superman loved sticking his hands in the water and crawling just close enough to the sprinkler to get misted. This is one activity that doesn’t get messy no matter how many little ones you have running it around. It just gets wet.
