If you have a toddler, chances are they LOVE dinosaurs. It seems like Batman and Superman spend half of the day running around roaring like dinosaurs. Their favorite toys right now are these dinosaurs that they got for Christmas. So what better way to get them to eat their eggs than to make dinosaur eggs.

Making dinosaur eggs is a great science experiment for young toddlers learning how colors work. They can all be made the same color, or each different colors with numerous possible shades depending on how dark or light you make the water.

These eggs don’t only look incredibly cool but they are completely edible. They consist of just eggs, food coloring and water; all of which you probably already have on hand.

How to Make Dinosaur Eggs

  • Hard-boiled eggs
  • Liquid food coloring
  • Small cups or bowls
  • Water

1. After the eggs have cooled, gently tap them on the counter or table. This will create cracks over the entire surface of the egg. Try to keep as much as the shell adhered to the egg as possible, if a few pieces come off it’s okay.

2. Add about 6-8 drops of food coloring to 1 cup of water. The water should be in a bowl or cup large enough to place the eggs. Add less for a lighter color, add more for a darker color.

3. Refrigerate the eggs in the colored water overnight.

4. In the morning, empty out the water and rinse the eggs thoroughly. Gently remove the shells from the eggs.

And, voila… you have dinosaur eggs.

I hope that your little ones enjoy MAKING them, and EATING them as much as mine do!
